I'm not certain if TOR is going to be available on any of the gaming consoles.  MMORPG's tend to be PC based, like World of Warcraft.  Galaxies was the same kind of deal.  Sure, things like X-Box Live and Playstation network allow you to play with friends online, but I haven't heard if LucasArts had any plans to go in that sort of direction.

MMORPG stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

Thanks Nick. I read they were trying to do ps3 , make online play kinda like call of duty but I guess it didn't workout.

So who's playing The Old Republic?

When I met up with SimPlayer this morning he mentioned that he's playing TOR.  And given the game's setup as a MMORPG, it really does lend itself to multi-player action.  An NJSWCC guild might be a pretty cool thing.

Well, I was waiting for this to come out on PS3, which might be completely different from what you are talking about.  If so, I apologize.  What is MMORPG stand for?  The older I get, the more my kids seem to know than me about these things.  Anyway, the only games I really play now are on the PS3, so if it comes out on that, I will buy it for sure.

Well, here is something to take note of.  It's a statement from LucasArts regarding network security and the protection of SWTOR user information.

Quote
Ensure Your Account Security
As we prepare to launch Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, we want to ensure that your account and personal information are as secure as possible. To that end, we have begun implementing new security features within StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com that are designed to protect you. This process includes a refresh of our password security requirements. To make sure that all accounts comply with our new security measures, members of the Star Wars: The Old Republic community who created accounts on StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com on or before October 21st, 2011 will be required to reset their password in order to meet with these new standards. Those members who created an account after October 21st, 2011 will not receive an email and do not need to update their passwords.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sending out emails to everyone who created an account on or before October 21st, 2011 to notify them that their password must be reset. You do not need to take any action prior to receiving an email.

When you create your new password, ensure that it meets the following criteria: the password must be 8-16 characters long and use at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter and one number. The more variety that you use in your password, the stronger your password will be.

Just like any other user account you have, changing your The Old Republic password on a regular basis is one of the simple measures you can take to protect your personal information. Another way to ensure a secure account is to get the official custom branded Security Authentication Key, available in the Star Wars: The Old Republic Collector’s Edition. The Collector’s Edition is still available in limited quantities at select retailers. Watch for more information on other ways to obtain The Old Republic Security Key soon!

Your Star Wars: The Old Republic account credentials are linked to EA.com and Origin.com, so your new password will be applied across all three websites. If you have any difficulties in updating your password, please contact our Customer Service team who’ll be happy to assist you.

I doubt it Nick.  Marshall isn't scared of anything.

Bumping this up.  LucasArts was demoing TOR at NY Comic Con.  They must have had about 40 gaming stations set up inside the booth, but there was still a considerable line to get in and try out the game.  There was also a HUGE Darth Malgus life-size maquette standing guard at the booth.  And I think Sideshow may be offering that at some point down the line.

A friend of mine has been beta testing the game.  His initial reaction?  "It's that good."  I think he couldn't tear himself away from the game to elaborate much more.  But the gameplay I was able to see on the monitors at the Lucas Arts booth looked pretty amazing.  I've never played a MMORPG, but based on the gameplay video I've seen I am seriously interested now.

I've been checking out some of the TOR web comics.  And it's interesting to see some echoes of both KOTOR and the film saga at work.  They're definitely worth checking out.

So far, they are indicating that the game will only be available for PCs.

I have heard that PC games are easily ported to the XBox, so I don't know why they couldn't have worked something out.

I've got to wonder if this game will be compatible with something like X-Box live.  I wonder if any of our resident gaming gurus can shed some light on that?

I really loved KOTOR and KOTOR II - I wish they had been able to figure out a way to have people play on XBox and PS3 with this game. I never seem to have a PC that's up-to-snuff when it comes to playing the latest and greatest PC games...   :-[
