VERY significant news regarding the final wave of the TLC RED line in this week's Q&A session

SIR STEVE'S GUIDE

QUESTION:  In a recent answer, Hasbro revealed that the Spring 2010 EU wave will be the only group of non-Clone Wars new figures until the Fall. Granted, we have seen gaps in the line before - most recently in the break between The Force Unleashed wave in Spring 2008 and the ROTJ wave in July 2008 - but this news has many collectors worried. With the Legacy line apparently in poor shape, is it the wisest idea to put it on hiatus for over 2 quarters this year? Granted, we'll still have The Clone Wars figures to look forward to, but such a pause might cause even more movie-based collectors to walk away and further undermine the line, perhaps into completely folding. Hasbro stated recently "We are working hard to get [collectors who have left the line] back, and we think that what we have lined up next year will be our best attempt." We know full details will be revealed at Toy Fair so we won't ask specifics, but can collectors look forward to some movie-based products in those lean 6 to 8 months while the basic Legacy-style line is on hiatus, enough stuff to hold their interest? And is it too late to get out a repaint wave, perhaps with some of those already-tooled variant figures like the Hoth Trooper, Imperial Scanning Crew, and Utai, perhaps some tooled but canceled Comic Pack figures, maybe even some kitbashes like Han Solo head on an Imperial body, to keep collectors interested during the break?

ANSWER:   There is literally nothing that can be done to get more figures to retail sooner. It's not the way we want it; ideally, new waves would flow in to retail every 6-8 weeks like clockwork. We originally set out to have more figures after the EU wave, but it became apparent that we would never get to them so they became the Toys 'R Us exclusive multi-packs. Legacy sales have been so far off the mark - and retails have enough inventory - that even the EU wave has become a Toys 'R Us exclusive in May, with some online retailers having access to the last of the run in June. Once we start fresh with Vintage, we will be able to manage the line to the new collector baseline and make tight releases to keep waves flowing regularly.

A series of Value Packs are now being sighted at retail.  They consist of either 2 TLC RED basic figures or 2 SAGA LEGENDS basic figures.  At WalMart stores these are ringing up at $7.46 each.  The pairings I've sighted so far include:

BD01 – Luke Skywalker (Stormtrooper disguise) with
BD08 - Queen Amidala

BD02 – Han Solo (Stormtrooper disguise) with
BD03 - Space Trooper

BD04 - Jawa & WED Treadwell Droid
BD11 - Clegg Holdfast

BD05 - Darth Maul
BD12 - Biker Scout

BD06 - Obi-Wan Kenobi
BD07 - Gungan Warrior

BD09 - Rum Sleg
BD10 - Darth Sidious Hologram

BD09 - Rum Sleg
BD12 - Biker Scout

I've also seen reports that ROTJ wave figures are being offered in similar 2-packs, but I have yet to sight them myself.  And as I mentioned earlier in this post there are also Saga Legends 2-packs out there, too.

Check out a loose image of Shaak Ti in the yakface forums.  The figure has shown up in Asia, and should start showing up in the US in several weeks.

Some of the notable items from the most recent Q&A sessions:

Han's Hideout

QUESTION:  Following up on a question from a previous round of Q&A - we asked you about the future of the second Imperial Scanning Crewman and you said he's in the EU Wave... but that's the case where the second Bespin Guard is, so we think you may have confused your variants. Is the second Scanning Crewman displaced at the moment or will he definitely make the basic figure line in 2010, even if it takes a card change before we see him?

ANSWER:  We were trying to get the second Imperial Scanning Crew Member into the EU wave, but we can confirm now that this will *not* happen since all production has been wrapped up for the red/white Legacy lineup and the factory was not able to get the Crewman in. At this point, he will not be produced in the Legacy line. He remains an important variant to bring out and we will be looking for ways to get him into the line, but at this point it will likely not be before 2011. He *will* eventually make it out, but we just need time to slot him in.

So it seems that the running change of the Imperial Scanning Crew will NOT be coming out in the TLC RED line.  But it is expected "at a later date".

A few items have come in from this week's Q&A session:

JEDI TEMPLE ARCHIVES

Hasbro "Trust us, we have staggering quantities of Droid Factory figures that we are unable to get to stores because of the quantity of figures still in the channel; we are not holding back and in fact doing everything we can to get the new waves out (including a recent pullback of unmoving figures to help us"recalibrate" the brand)."

GALACTIC HUNTER

Wooof (Jabba's Palace Klaatu) PRE-PRODUCTION SKETCHES

HAN'S HIDEOUT

HASBRO: "As for the 2010 Bespin Han, things have changed a bit and he's now coming in 2011 (a different Han will be coming in 2010). "

HAN'S HIDEOUT

HASBRO: "He was indeed dropped, leaving a hole in our figuring number system. This was in response to needing to shift a bunch of assortments around - we just couldn't fit him in. As such, there will be no BD24 (General Grievous) issued."

Rebelscum has posted an extensive carded figure gallery HERE.

Images reveal that the BD46 figure will indeed be a Stormtrooper.  This one appears that it may be a reissue of the 2007 30AC figure.  Check it out!
