Star Wars Movies Coming to Blu-ray

Source: IGN April 19, 2010

Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet revealed at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) this weekend that the "Star Wars" films are coming to Blu-ray.

"We have been at work for a couple of years working on - I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff - but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material," Sansweet told IGN. "We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures."

While he wouldn't reveal when they will be released, he said "it won't be in the too distant future."

One deleted scene that was filmed but has yet to see inclusion is Lando rescuing Luke from the top of the Falcon. Luke falls, but he doesn't fall right into Lando's arms - he falls a fair distance from the hatch and Lando has to walk out onto the Falcon's hull to get Luke. I know the scene was filmed, and it never really made sense to me that Lando had him in so fast, so I hope they include that scene, even though it's pretty minor.

Like others have said, the Toshi Station, C-3PO setting the "Wampa Trap" and Sandstorm scenes would all also be great additions.

Another sequence I know was shot but lost was the fact that Luke, Biggs and Wedge actually make two runs on the trench - apparently everything needed for those was filmed. I'm not sure how much of the dialog in the two different runs was merged into the single run, but it would be cool if they put that footage in as a alternate scene, not cut into the movie just so we could hear all the dialogue.

I'd like to see the sandstorm scene from ROTJ included, would also like to see the "From Star Wars to Jedi..." documentary on the bonus disc.

I DVR yesterday all 3 movies on Spike HD.  That should do for now until whenever.  It took Lucas forever to come out OT DVD.  I don't expect he will release anytime soon.  Would love to see extras/deleted scenes that we haven't seen before.

Hope I didn't get anyones hopes up for long!

Personally I'd like to see some OT deleted scenes.  Fans know that they exist.  And it would be awesome to see some of them at long last.  The Toshi Station.  C-3PO taking down the danger sign for the "Wampa Room" in TESB.  The Sandstorm.  This stuff is the stuff of legend!  I just hope that the original negatives are in decent condition.

I personally love the extras. All the behind the scenes and making of's.
Concept artwork etc.

I'm hoping they come out with box sets right off the bat, but honestly
I'll take the high def love any way we can get it.

PLEASE give us SW in Concert on Blu!

Sorry for any kind of false alarm!  There has been no announcement at this time of the OT being offered in the Blu Ray format.  But there is some speculation that it could be one of the big items that gets promoted for next year's Star Wars Celebration V.

But more to the point, what are you hoping to see in a Blu Ray offering that was not offered when the OT was first offered on DVD?
