Season 4 of Game of Thrones on HBO premiered last week.  If you've been tuning into the show the events of last night's episode were just jaw-dropping.

There is so much that takes place in A Storm of Swords that I could certainly see that happening.  The show has certainly taken off to the point where I could see HBO trying to stretch things out, and in the long run that might serve the story that much better.  And I can also see the show intertwining storylines from A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons since many of the events in both of those books are taking place simultaneously.  Those combined stories could easily make up 2 seasons of the show as well.

I also think that stretching things out for the television series serves another purpose:  that it might give George R.R. Martin time to finish books 6 & 7.  Book 5 only came out last year, and we're already in season 2 of the television series.  Given the time it has taken George R.R. Martin to finish each novel, he's going to need some time to catch up.

And the other thing that's interesting?  If HBO sticks with the series to it's conclusion, this could be the longest running original drama in the history of HBO.  The Sopranos lasted 7 seasons.  This could potentially run for 8 or 9.

Really?  My summer reading consisted of the entire series of novels.  I finished book 5 a month ago or so.  If the producers of the show stay reasonably true to the books, this is going to be an epic television series!

Season 2 of Game of Thrones debuts next Sunday on HBO!  I am REALLY stoked for this season, and it looks like the show will be even better than the first season.

There have been a number of casting announcements about season 2.  And some past Star Wars actors will be among the cast.

I just finished reading the book that's the basis for the upcoming season, A Clash of Kings.  Both the novels AND the show are fantastic, and it's worth getting HBO just for this show.

Game of Thrones - HBO Series

The series just wrapped up this past sunday.  But WOW!  What a great new series for HBO to bring to the small screen.  I have been glued to my tv every sunday night since the series premiered.  I didn't know anything about the George R.R. Martin books before going into it, but now I'm reading the followup book to Game of Thrones, called A Clash of Kings.

So who else was watching this season?  And who else is eagerly awaiting season 2 which will premiere in spring of 2012?
